An important story in the news

People say that family are the ones who are going to stay forever by your side and will support you no matter what, but how true is that statement?
Yesterday, Thursday 18th October, I read something shocking in the news. It was the story of a cyclist who was shot by a hunter that thought he was a wild pig. The story is basically that: a man who died because of a mistake. However, there are some factors that make this story interesting and shocking.

Starting from the beginning, one of my thoughts is that it wouldn't have happened if hunting was an illegal practice. How blind could you be to confuse a person with an animal, especially when that person is wearing cycling flashy clothes? In my opinion, hunting is one of the worst practices that are still done in the 21st century, not to mention bullfighting. Nevertheless, we are not here to talk about that.

On the other hand, the thing that caught my attention was that when news reporters interviewed the cyclist's family, none of them showed mercy or sadness for his death. Then, it was when I read that the deceased was a sexual abuser who raped many women including his own sister. There was no acquantaince that supported him because of the things he had done. What's more, his sister stated "I feel relieved that he's dead".

As a woman, I understand what being afraid is because I have been attacked and suffer everyday what patriachy is. That's why I completely agree with the feeling of a relieved woman who knows that the deceased is not going to make suffer anyone again, because he had even been reported to the police but they did nothing.

And here comes again the first question agian. Family doesn't have to be your best friend. They could, but nobody has to stand and bear with someone just because they share the "same blood". Family can be someone who you consider that way, not someone that shares your genetics. Abuse is abuse, physically or mentally and no one has the right to commit it.
